Erode city is the headquarters of erode district. Erode History
Upto 850 A.D., Erode was under the control of Cara Kings. After that, it was captured by Great emperor Cholas.  Later it was continuously ruled by Pandyas, Modeen Sultans, Madurai Nayaks, Hyder Ali, Tippu Sultan and British East India Company.
