Karur is the oldest town and district headquarters of Karur district in Tamilnadu. The town is located in between the 4 districts, which are Namakkal, Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli and Erode districts of Tamilnadu. Karur is well known for cottage industries, handloom textiles, Chettinadu Cement Factory, home textiles, bus building industries, Govt. TNPL Paper (2nd largest paper producer in Asia).
In ancient days, Karur was capital of Chera kings. During those periods, this place was called as Karuvoor and Vanji. Karur has been found popular as trading centre from Sangam Age itself.
