Madurai History
Madurai is well known for its cultural heritage and 2500 years old city. Madurai was the capital city of great emperor Pandyas. Once Madurai was forest called as "Kadambavanam". Madurai was ruled by various emperors like Pandyas, Cholas, Madurai Sultanate, Vijayanagar Empire, Madurai Nayaks, Chanda Sahib, Carnatic Kingdom and finally British.
