Namakkal city is the headquarters of Namakkal district in Tamilnadu. Namakkal district was separated from Salem District by the year 1997. Four Taluks Namakkal, Rasipuram, Tiruchengode and Paramathi-Velur are coming under this district. Namakkal district is famous for Lorry Body Building Units, Poultry Farms (second largest poultry industry in India), Rock Fort, Tallest Anjaneyar Temple, Kolli Malai, Two Cave Temples and Ranganatha Temples.

Namakkal History
Similar to other cities in Tamilnadu, Namakkal district also have long history from 9th century. The Name “Namakkal” came to this place, because of the Namagiri rock found here. It is the single rock with height of 65m. Above the rock, there is a fort, which was built by Great Emperor Tippu Sultan.
