Thiruvarur city is the headquarters of Thiruvarur District in Tamilnadu. This district was separated from Thanjavur district. Some of the taluks like Kudavasal, Needamangalam, Thiruvarur, Mannargudi, Nannilam, Thirutturaippoondi and Valangaiman are come under this district. Thiruvarur is famous for its Temple and biggest temple chariot in Tamilnadu. The birth place of DMK Leader Mr. M.Karunanidhi belongs to this district.

Tiruvarur History
Thiruvarur was ruled by Great King Cholas. From those days, this town is famous for Sri Tyagaraja Temple and Annual Chariot Festival.  “Panchamuga Vadyam” is the popular musical instrument found in this temple. The history has been telling that this instrument was played by Nanchi Devi, While Lord Shiva Dancing. Famous Carnatic Music Legends like Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar and Syama Sastri were born in this district.
