Vellore History
At first, Vellore was ruled by small kings. Later it was ruled by Vijayanagar kings. After that, it was captured by Arcot Nawab. Similar to other Tamilnadu district, finally Vellore came under control of British. At first, it was called as north Arcot district. This district was separated from north Arcot district in 30th September 1989 and named as Ambedkar district. From 1997, this district was called as Vellore district, because of the district headquarters Vellore. In 1806, Vellore sippai mutiny was found as origin for Indian sepoy mutiny in 1857.

Vellore district is surrounded by Thiruvallur in East, Tiruvannamalai districts in South, Dharmapuri districts in West and Chittoor districts in North.
